Summary

Seven months ago, Pallas Llewellyn, Talia March, and Amelia Rivers were strangers, until their fateful stay at the Lucent Springs Hotel。 An earthquake and a fire partially destroyed the hotel, but the women have no memory of their time there。 Now close friends, the three women co-host a podcast called the Lost Night Files, where they investigate cold cases and hope to connect with others who may have had a similar experience to theirs—an experience that has somehow enhanced the psychic abilities already present in each woman。

After receiving a tip for their podcast, Pallas travels to the small college town of Carnelian, California, to explore an abandoned asylum。 Shaken by the dark energy she feels in the building, she is rushing out when she’s stopped by a dark figure—who turns out to be the women's mysterious tipster。

Ambrose Drake is certain he’s a witness to a murder, but without a body, everyone thinks he’s having delusions caused by extreme sleep deprivation。 But Ambrose is positive something terrible happened at the Carnelian Sleep Institute the night he was there。 Unable to find proof on his own, he approaches Pallas for help, only for her to realize that Ambrose, too, has a lost night that he can’t remember—one that may be connected to Pallas。 Pallas and Ambrose conduct their investigation using the podcast as a cover, and while the townsfolk are eager to share what they know, it turns out there are others who are not so happy about their questions—and someone is willing to kill to keep the truth from coming out。

A lost night ending in a radically changed life 4 strangers have the same experience and 2 of them Ambrose and Pallas end up in working together to find answers for Ambrose。 Lots of twists and turns until the truth starts to come to the surface。 Lots of sitting on the edge of your seat moments as they did deeper into the Sleep Institute to try and uncover what really happened there and manage to stay alive themselves at the same time。 Really Good Read。

FINAL DECISION: The story is much more suspense than romance, although I really enjoyed that Pallas and Ambrose spent most of the book together doing their investigation。 I wish there were more relationship development, but I don't expect as much of that in Krentz's books now as I used to enjoy。 The story was really good and kept me engaged until the end。 Warning that this book leaves the big overarching story open for the rest of the series (what happened to the characters during the Lost Night FINAL DECISION: The story is much more suspense than romance, although I really enjoyed that Pallas and Ambrose spent most of the book together doing their investigation。 I wish there were more relationship development, but I don't expect as much of that in Krentz's books now as I used to enjoy。 The story was really good and kept me engaged until the end。 Warning that this book leaves the big overarching story open for the rest of the series (what happened to the characters during the Lost Night), but the primary plot of the book is resolved。THE STORY: Pallas Llewellyn's life was turned upside down when she awoke at a hotel with no memory of what happened。 Two other women had the same experience。 The three have bonded in trying to determine what happened to them。 The three have the "Lost Night Files" podcast where they investigate unusual happenings in hopes of discovering what happened to them。 Ambrose Drake has had a similar experience as the three women at the Carnelian Sleep Clinic。 His experience was magnified because he believes that he saw a murder during his "lost night"。 Ambrose connects with Pallas t get her help in discovering what happened。 The two join forces to investigate what happened to them -- especially because each had a significant paranormal talent arise after the missing night。OPINION: This book has a similar theme to Krentz's last series, Fogg Lake, but I feel that she has improved just about everything in the series。 This book has more tension and drama, and suspense。 My only complaint is that there really isn't any drama between Ambrose and Pallas, so their relationship is not compelling at all。 Instead, it seems obvious from their first meeting that a relationship is inevitable。The suspense story here is well crafted as there were plenty of twists, but the twists make sense, and the foundation for them is developed throughout the story。My favorite part of this book, however, is that Ambrose and Pallas spend almost the entire book together。 It feels like a buddy book (with sex and romance, certainly)。 That might be what bothered me about their relationship。 It feels like a book that is part of the series where the main characters already have an ongoing relationship that turns romantic。 (Because I am primarily a romance reader, I prefer romance to suspense, but this book definitely leans on the suspense part)。 There definitely is equality between the characters and their importance in solving the mystery of the book。Both Pallas and Ambrose are suffering from the events of their lost night and dealing with their enhanced paranormal abilities。 Some of my favorite Krentz books are her paranormal ones because they have a different energy, and the book feels more engaging。 The paranormal abilities give the characters quirks that they have to deal with so the characters are changing as the story develops。 Pallas and Ambrose find acceptance in one another which helps their relationship during the book。We don't get much about the other characters who will be the focus of the other books in the series, so I'm looking forward to their stories。WORTH MENTIONING: I loved the Easter Eggs for fans of Krentz's universe, including Arcane and Burning Cove。CONNECTED BOOKS: SLEEP NO MORE is the first book in the Lost Night Files。STAR RATING: I give this book 4。5 stars。NOTE: I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley to permit me to prepare this review。 I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review。 All opinions contained herein are my own。 。。。more

SLEEP NO MORE is a thrilling romantic suspense novel by Jayne Ann Krentz。The story follows protagonist Charlotte Sawyer, a librarian with the ability to read other people's dreams。 When she begins experiencing vivid and disturbing dreams about a serial killer, she becomes convinced that she is connected to the case and sets out to solve the mystery。 Along the way, she meets a charming and enigmatic man named Max Cutler, who may have more to do with the case than he initially lets on。One of the s SLEEP NO MORE is a thrilling romantic suspense novel by Jayne Ann Krentz。The story follows protagonist Charlotte Sawyer, a librarian with the ability to read other people's dreams。 When she begins experiencing vivid and disturbing dreams about a serial killer, she becomes convinced that she is connected to the case and sets out to solve the mystery。 Along the way, she meets a charming and enigmatic man named Max Cutler, who may have more to do with the case than he initially lets on。One of the strengths of SLEEP NO MORE is its well-developed characters。 Charlotte is a likable and intelligent protagonist, and Max is a complex and mysterious love interest。 The chemistry between the two leads is palpable, and their relationship adds an extra layer of tension to the already suspenseful plot。Krentz's writing is crisp and engaging, and she does an excellent job of building tension and keeping the reader guessing。 The plot is complex and well-crafted, with plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting。 The resolution of the mystery is satisfying and well-done, and the romance between Charlotte and Max is sweet and believable。 。。。more

sleep no moreThe first chapter starts out wonky。 It was hard to follow the thread。 But this is a JAK novel。 It may be wonky now but by the end of the first chapter I was hooked。 I liked the h/h。 Both were likable and felt like they could be real。 But I never really connected。 I loved the story。 I loved the twists and turns in the storylines。 All in all another great book。 Can’t wait until the next comes out。

A new Jayne Ann Krentz series gives us mysteries on top of mysteries, friendship, and romance。 Sleep No More starts things off by introducing us to three friends: Pallas Llewellyn, Talia March, and Amelia Rivers- none of whom had met before going to a job at the Lucent Springs Hotel。 They left the hotel not only best friends, but without remembering what happened to them overnight- and all three now possessing enhanced psychic powers。 Pallas can enter a waking trance state and draw what she sees A new Jayne Ann Krentz series gives us mysteries on top of mysteries, friendship, and romance。 Sleep No More starts things off by introducing us to three friends: Pallas Llewellyn, Talia March, and Amelia Rivers- none of whom had met before going to a job at the Lucent Springs Hotel。 They left the hotel not only best friends, but without remembering what happened to them overnight- and all three now possessing enhanced psychic powers。 Pallas can enter a waking trance state and draw what she sees in the energy, although it isn't always easy to translate what that means。 The three friends now run a podcast to reach others who have lost nights with possible paranormal connections and Amrose Drake is sure he has a case for them: his own。Ambrose has actually lost two nights, but on one of them he's pretty sure he saw a woman murdered。 Or at least her body being carried off。 No one will believe him without a body, but Pallas does and the two start investigating the town of Carnelian。 Using the podcast as a cover they look into the Carnelian Sleep Institute, and plenty of locals are willing to share gossip on the odd doctor who runs it。 The Institute may or may not be a legitimate sleep study clinic, but it certainly has somethings going on and may connect to not only Ambrose's lost nights but his own enhanced psychic powers。 I really enjoyed Pallas (loved her name!) and Ambrose, partly for how completely out of their depth they were。 They weren't like Krentz's other psychic characters who have been psychic all their lives and are used to using their gifts as just part of their normal range of talents。 They may have had 'sensitivities' all their lives but only turned into psychics with full blown powers after their 'lost nights'。 Having to adjust to a "new normal" has been difficult and they've been handling it as well as possible。 Pallas had it a little easier because she had two friends with similar experiences she could talk to, Ambrose had to deal with everything alone and ended up questioning his sanity a lot along the way。 That "psychic mystery" will be the overarching one to tie the three books together and I think Krentz set things up really well here。 We got enough breadcrumbs to want more but no where near enough to figure out what was going on。 The "individual mystery" felt personal since Ambrose needed to know the murders had happened as much for his sanity as anything else, so he had a really stake in it from the beginning。 Otherwise it will feel familiar to Krentz fans: the small town, quirky characters, and slow burn romance over the developing partnership of Pallas and Ambrose。 Krentz's trademark humor help the characters get through some harrowing situations and I enjoyed the book very much。 I can't wait for the next one in the series! 。。。more

As Pallas listens to his story and finds out that he had previously experienced a case of losing a day when he woke up on a beach not knowing where he was and with no idea how he got there, she realises its eerily familiar to what had happened her and her two fellow podcasters。This was a strong start to the series。 Its very much a slow burner on the romance aspect concentrating more on building the relationship between Pallas and Ambrose rather than on their physical attraction。 I loved the atmospheric setting of an old insane asylum set in the spooky coastal town of Carnelian, California and although I did figure out the true story behind the ghost of Catherine Carnelian it played its purpose in providing Pallas and Ambrose with a reason for being in the town with the secondary story of drug dealing adding some depth to the overall conspiracy plot which I’m assuming will arc across the series。 Who was behind the abductions of Pallas and Ambrose which had resulted in their enhanced psychic abilities and for what purpose? Sleep No More by Jayne Ann Krentz is the first book in The Lost Night Files。 When I started reading Sleep No More, I found it confusing。 It did not feel like the beginning (reminiscent of starting to watch a movie halfway through it)。 I kept reading in the hopes that I could get into the story, but it did not happen。 There is a murder or two, paranormal abilities, and romance。 The point-of-view switches around between Ambrose Drake and Pallas Llewellyn (which leads to repetition)。 Ambrose and Pa Sleep No More by Jayne Ann Krentz is the first book in The Lost Night Files。 When I started reading Sleep No More, I found it confusing。 It did not feel like the beginning (reminiscent of starting to watch a movie halfway through it)。 I kept reading in the hopes that I could get into the story, but it did not happen。 There is a murder or two, paranormal abilities, and romance。 The point-of-view switches around between Ambrose Drake and Pallas Llewellyn (which leads to repetition)。 Ambrose and Pallas both suffered a loss of memory。 They both woke up in a strange place and it was a day later。 There miner psychic abilities became heightened。 Ambrose contacted Pallas through the podcast (The Lost Night Files) which she hosts with Amelia Rivers and Talia March。 Amelia and Talia had the same experience as Pallas。 The woke up with Pallas outside an abandoned hotel that was ablaze (try explaining that one to the authorities)。 Their abilities are strengthened as well。 They agree to help Ambrose figure out what happened at the Carnelian Sleep Institute where he believes he witnessed a murder。 The town of Carnelian seems to be a hub for shifty endeavors。 There is a lot going on in the book。 I was not a fan of the characters。 Ambrose is a hot mess。 Since the lost day, Ambrose has been suffering from severe sleep deprivation。 He is unsure of what is real and what is not real。 This is why he needs help looking into the activities at the Carnelian Sleep Institute。 Pallas is twitchy and mistrustful。 I struggled to finish the book。 Sleep No More was not for me。 I have enjoyed other books by this author, but the way Sleep No More was written kept me from being engaged。 I will skip the other books in The Lost Night Files。 Sleep No More is a restive tale with missing memories, extrasensory skills, a mysterious murder, cold cases, detailed drawings, a curious college, and a rare romance。 。。。more

Sleep No More, Jayne Ann Krentz’ first book in the Lost Night Files trilogy, is an entertaining paranormal romantic suspense novel with a gothic twist。Cold cases podcaster Pallas Llewellyn follows a listener tip to Carnelian California。 There she meets the tipster, Ambrose Drake, who needs her help to investigate a murder he can’t quite remember。Krentz use of the Lost Night Files podcast as the reason for and means of investigating the mystery was a fun and fresh take on the usual detective aspe Sleep No More, Jayne Ann Krentz’ first book in the Lost Night Files trilogy, is an entertaining paranormal romantic suspense novel with a gothic twist。Cold cases podcaster Pallas Llewellyn follows a listener tip to Carnelian California。 There she meets the tipster, Ambrose Drake, who needs her help to investigate a murder he can’t quite remember。Krentz use of the Lost Night Files podcast as the reason for and means of investigating the mystery was a fun and fresh take on the usual detective aspect of novels in this genre。 Although the podcast itself only made a cameo appearance it this novel, I hope it will feature more extensively in the following books。I particularly enjoyed the gothic aspect of the story; a mystery set in a small fog-shrouded town with an abandoned asylum and a possible ghost。 It gave the story a timeless feel and served to enhance its suspense。The cemetery caretaker was probably my favorite secondary character。 This laid-back and knowledgeable former soldier was a real pleasure to read about。 I hope he will appear in future books。Longtime readers of Krentz’ novels will certainly enjoy make links between the events in this story and the overarching paranormal theme of her previous series, Fogg Lake and Arcane Society。 Meanwhile, fans of her 1930’s Burning Cove series (written as Amanda Quick), will enjoy the references to a certain consultant firm run by a former mobster turned nightclub owner。 (It was fun to discover that the company is still alive in the Jayneverse over 70 years later。)Sleep No More is a satisfying mystery that teasingly sets up the following books in the Lost Night Files trilogy。 I look forward to reading the next book in the series。Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for this ARC copy of Sleep No More。 。。。more

Another series from the talented pen of Jayne Ann Krentz brings a new eerie, sometimes atmospheric tale involving an asylum’s dark history, a weird psychic phenomenon out in the desert, suspicious characters who form a partnership to get at the truth, and a diabolical plot at the heart of it all。My full review will post at The Reading Frenzy TBA。

A very intriguing novel Jayne kKentz has written a wonderful novel with strong likeable characters。 The question is what would you do if you woke up one day with a strong paranormal talent and the loss of a day。Ambrose Drake awoke from a nightmare to find his life out of his control, he needs answers to his questions。 The Lost Night Files is a podcast operated by three women who also have questions to answer。 Pallas Llewellyn has a curious talent the might help Ambrose to investigate what happen A very intriguing novel Jayne kKentz has written a wonderful novel with strong likeable characters。 The question is what would you do if you woke up one day with a strong paranormal talent and the loss of a day。Ambrose Drake awoke from a nightmare to find his life out of his control, he needs answers to his questions。 The Lost Night Files is a podcast operated by three women who also have questions to answer。 Pallas Llewellyn has a curious talent the might help Ambrose to investigate what happened in the Sleep Institute。A great read loved that it held my attention the whole way, trying to out guess the writer。 The little epilogue at the end was great as we now have a snap shot of who the protagonist is and how far he's willing to go to achieve his ends。 。。。more

This was the first book in Krentz's The Lost Night Files trilogy。 Three women had an unusual experience one night。 Strangers until their lost night, Pallas, Talia, and Amelia have banded together to support each other since the night seems to have enhanced their psychic gifts。 They have begun a podcast which explores unusual things。 Ambrose Drake is a writer who also experienced a lost night which also enhanced his psychic gifts。 But without support, he has been afraid that he is losing his mind This was the first book in Krentz's The Lost Night Files trilogy。 Three women had an unusual experience one night。 Strangers until their lost night, Pallas, Talia, and Amelia have banded together to support each other since the night seems to have enhanced their psychic gifts。 They have begun a podcast which explores unusual things。 Ambrose Drake is a writer who also experienced a lost night which also enhanced his psychic gifts。 But without support, he has been afraid that he is losing his mind。 He knows that he has developed insomnia to keep him from sleepwalking himself into danger。 When he spends that night at a clinic that specializes in sleep disorders and thinks that he witnessed a murder, he calls on the ladies of the Lost Night podcast to help him investigate。Pallas answers his call which takes her to Carnelian, California, where the sleep clinic is and where there is also an old, abandoned asylum。 Their first meeting doesn't seem propitious。 She is frightened by him and by the atmosphere of the old asylum。 Where Ambrose has an enhanced ability to see auras and take fast action based on what he sees, Pallas uses a sort of dream state to do automatic drawings which show her the past in a cryptic sort of way。 She also can feel emotions in places and has been getting clumsier as she tries to avoid hot spots only she can sense。 She can also use her new paranormal senses to calm violent emotions of the person with the emotions is touching her。 She is an interior decorator who uses her gift to fine tune spaces。 Both of them have lost relationships because of their new gifts, though Pallas's ex has followed her to Carnelian to propose a new business venture。 Their relationship broke down when she scared him with her gift。 Pallas and Ambrose find more than they bargained for in Carnelian。 A shady sleep clinic, a drug ring, a college teetering on the edge of disaster, and a few assorted murders should make it hard for anyone to find a new relationship, but Pallas and Ambrose to fall in love and find lots of answers。 Because this is the first book in a trilogy, there are still lots of answers to be found。 Why is someone using illegal drugs and experiments to enhance psychic gifts? How were the people who were enhanced found and chosen for these experiments? We will need to wait for Talia and Amelia's stories to find the answers。 This was an engaging romantic suspense story with interesting characters。 I liked the relationship between Ambrose and Pallas who are both determined to find answers。 。。。more

The first book in a new series (The Lost Night Files) by JAK, it doesn't disappoint。 While not her best, the story and characters are still very engaging。 Three women who lost their memories of their night at the Lucent Springs Hotel, now co-host a podcast, which investigates cold cases。 They have acquired enhanced psychic abilities since then。 This book follows the story of Pallas, one of these women and Ambrose Drake, who asks for her help in investigating a possible murder。 Ambrose also has e The first book in a new series (The Lost Night Files) by JAK, it doesn't disappoint。 While not her best, the story and characters are still very engaging。 Three women who lost their memories of their night at the Lucent Springs Hotel, now co-host a podcast, which investigates cold cases。 They have acquired enhanced psychic abilities since then。 This book follows the story of Pallas, one of these women and Ambrose Drake, who asks for her help in investigating a possible murder。 Ambrose also has enhanced psychic capabilities and as they investigate the potential murder, someone (or someones) tries to kill them。 It is an interesting read and I connected with both protagonists, especially Ambrose who is afraid to sleep as he fears nightmares and sleepwalking。 It was good to read about a "hero" who had flaws as that made him more human and relatable。 Overall a good read that I would recommend to any fan of JAK。 。。。more
